Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about our services.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield , United, Cigna, and Medicare. Most of our clients are seen at zero cost to them through their insurance plan. If we do not take your insurance, we can provide a Super Bill (receipt of services) that you will send to your insurance company and they may reimburse you.
Are appointments in person or virtual?
We provide both! If you prefer a virtual appointment & want to use your insurance, please make sure to check that insurance will cover
What about private pay fees?
Please email [email protected]. Private pay fees are affordable and we accept HSA/FSA as well.
What is the process?
If you are ready to schedule an appointment, you can do so here.
Once an appointment is scheduled, we will create a profile for you within our HIPAA compliant system, Simple Practice. You will receive an email about this and be guided to complete the new client paperwork before your visit.
If you would like more information, please email [email protected]
What can I expect at my appointments?
Working with a dietitian is amazing, of course!!! As dietitians we are trained to provide medical nutrition therapy. You will be having a conversation with your RD about anything playing a role in your nutrition. You will discuss your nutrition concerns, goals for your health, past medical history, medications, and symptoms you are facing. In addition, we will be focusing on the behavioral side of things as well -what foods you rely on and your eating patterns, etc. Together, we will formulate a plan that best meets your needs. This may include education, resources, recipes and more! Everything we do is highly individualized just for YOU. We can’t wait to work with you!
How long are appointments?
Initial appointments last 60 minutes. Follow up appointments may be shorter.
How long will be work together?
We recommend working together for 3 months, at minimum. It can take some time to make lifestyle changes and we want to be there for you.
Do you sell supplements or labs?
We take a food first approach. We do not offer additional testing at this time but can make recommendations if we feel it is appropriate.
Where are you located? Where should I park?
We are downtown Birmingham right off Red Mountain Express, between St. Vincents and UAB. We are in the same building as Retina Specialist. There is plenty of parking. Please park on the side of the building where there is a red awning and sign that says “Practice Works”. You will come through the Practice Works door.
What To Ask Your Insurance

- Are there any exclusions or limitations?
- Are my visits subject to a deductible?
- Is there a co pay?
